Who are we?

My name is Ziggy! Growing up in a family where a STEM career seemed my only option, I never imagined I'd find myself falling in love with jazz. My parents worked tirelessly to give me opportunities they never had, but music was a luxury we couldn't afford. That all changed during my freshman year when I stumbled upon a campus jazz ensemble's rehearsal.

The sound was like nothing I'd ever heard—raw, expressive, and alive. I was captivated by the way the musicians communicated without words, their instruments speaking in a language of their own. It was as if they were telling stories, and for the first time, I felt like I was truly listening.

I began attending every performance, immersing myself in the history and culture of jazz. I learned about its roots in resilience and its power to bring people together. The more I discovered, the more I wanted to share this incredible art form with others, especially those who, like me, might never have had the chance to experience it.

Now, as I navigate my journey as a first-generation student, I’m committed to creating opportunities for others to discover jazz. It's not just music—it's a bridge to understanding, a celebration of diversity, and a gift I’m eager to share with the world.
